Program Overview

The mental and physical demands of patient care, particularly on the nursing staff, has led to an increasingly strained workforce battling burnout. As a chief nursing officer (CNO), you will be required to demonstrate business management and leadership skills while supporting the demands of the workforce and the larger healthcare system. You will also need to foster key relationships with stakeholders, serve as a policy expert, encourage diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and create an innovation culture.

The Chief Nursing Executive Program from Emory Executive Education has been designed by renowned thought leaders from Emory Goizueta Business School, Emory School of Nursing, and Emory Healthcare. The faculty and industry experts have backgrounds spanning healthcare management, business management, nursing leadership, patient care, and finance. The 9- to 12-month immersive nursing program is focused on providing the mindset, skills, and frameworks required for you to succeed in leadership roles.

"Nursing leaders face a tremendous array of complex and varied challenges in today’s healthcare environment. Though medical skills are of course vital, they alone are insufficient to navigate the multifaceted interests of diverse stakeholders across the healthcare landscape. Today’s CNEs also need strong leadership and business acumen skills to make strategic decisions that impact patients, their teams, and the communities that they serve. The Chief Nursing Executive Program features experts in nursing leadership from across Emory University including the Goizueta Business School, School of Nursing, Emory Healthcare, Rollins School of Public Health, and School of Medicine. We have custom-designed a comprehensive education for nursing executives to help them thrive in leadership roles within healthcare."
